Join us as a Midtown-Metro Summer Counselor

Midtown-Metro's summer advising program prepares college students to be exceptional professionals, loyal friends, and strong parents by providing them with the opportunity and challenge of mentoring inner-city students by being life-changing role models.

Through their example and friendship, advisors inspire each student to overcome challenges and achieve the personal, academic, and spiritual excellence for which each was created.

Employment opportunities are also available for teachers in core academic subjects and apprenticeships.

Finally, we continue to rely on volunteer tutors to help provide ongoing academic support for our students over the summer.

You can apply to be a volunteer by clicking on the button below, or you may apply for one of our staff positions with the information provided for each Center.

Summer Positions at Midtown for boys

Each summer, low-income 3rd-8th grade boys come to Midtown to experience several weeks of hands-on academics, competitive sports, field trips, character education, and fun. Students attend daily classes in math, science, reading, and language arts, and have a sports period that fosters an instructional, character-based, and competitive learning environment. Students and their advisors also attend field trips once a week to enhance their learning outside the traditional classroom.

Meanwhile, High Schoolers engage in apprenticeships, which are interactive programs in which they learn marketable skills from professionals in specialized fields. Apprentices present final projects that demonstrate their acquired skills, receive career-based presentations from guest speakers, attend site visits and field trips pertinent to their apprenticeship, and develop the critical thinking and decision-making skills needed to excel in the workplace. The apprenticeships offered are based on the five most popular college majors for young men entering college, including Engineering, Computer Science, Architecture, Business, and Pre-Law.

Program dates are June 17 - July 25, 2025 for summer advisor, teaching, coaching and staff positions at Midtown Center for boys. All are also required to be present for Training Week, which will run from Monday, June 9th to Friday, June 13, 2025.
