Boosting Grades while Learning the Value of Being on Time
This January, Metro's Winter Workout gave the girls an opportunity to keep their minds fresh for one week over winter break by giving them small group activity workshops on math, reading, study skills, and technology. Grade appropriate test prep was also available for the ISAT, high school entrance exams, and ACT practice tests.
The Winter Workout program was priced at $15. If you attended right on time every day, you would receive the full $15 back for being punctual. Eleven year-old Chloe Daniel not only got her $15 back, but she also earned that money all by herself. With a huge smile on her face as she skipped out of Metro, she held tightly the plastic ziploc bag with her $15 in dollars and change. In her own words, here's what she had to say:
Q: Why did you decide to join the Winter Workout?
A: My mom told me about it and I thought it would be fun.
Q: What did you learn from the whole experience? What did you like about it?
A: I learned more about multiplication tables. I liked the reading class because I had time to ask questions in a smaller setting.
Q: What inspired you to make it on time every day?
A: I wanted to make it on time to learn and impress my teachers.
Q: Did you save this money on your own? How?
A: Yes, I saved the money on my own. I saved money from allowance from doing chores.
Q: What do you love about Metro?
A: I love the people at Metro and how they teach. I like the friends I have made here.
