Through the grant, MEF will be able to continue to offer Summer Engineering Apprenticeships for Inner-city High School Students at its Midtown Center for boys and Metro Achievement Center for girls.  These summer apprenticeships give dozens of underserved minority students the opportunity to explore a career in Engineering and increase their love and knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).  Student apprentices also receive a stipend for their work and studies.

“We couldn't be more thrilled to once again partner with Motorola and are blown away by their increased contribution this year,” said Brent Bridwell, Senior Managing Director of Advancement for MEF. “This will provide our students with so many enriching experiences through the Engineering Apprenticeship Program that will affect their lives far beyond the summer.”

The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as MEF, that support and advance education initiatives in public safety and technology and engineering. Additionally, the Foundation has a long-standing commitment to supporting programs that benefit underrepresented populations, including females, people of color, people with disabilities, veterans and others.

“This year, the Foundation’s grants will support programs that help millions of students, teachers, first responders and community members around the globe,” said Karem Perez, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation.“ We are thrilled to partner with organizations like Midtown Educational Foundation that are actively making a positive difference in their communities.”
