Mario Martinez, a Midtown high school senior, was inspired to pursue a career in engineering after participating in Midtown’s Summer Engineering Apprenticeship. With those dreams in mind, the Midtown Staff helped Mario apply to college. Now acceptance letters are rolling in! With the help of Midtown Staff, Mario and his family are evaluating the choices, working to find a school that fits Mario’s academic and financial needs. You can hear more about Mario in MEF Board Member Chip Mulaney’s 2018 Reach for Excellence Awards acceptance speech here.
Metro alumna, Nancy Marquez, recently came back to Metro as the Program Manager for the Metro Achievement Program for 7-8th graders. Nancy started attending Metro herself in 7th grade. As a student at Metro, Nancy worked with staff to take advantage of the many travel opportunities available to students (including trips to Costa Rica and China!). During high school, Metro helped her apply and enroll into the University of Illinois, where she graduated with a degree in Communications. She is happy to be back at Metro, paying her experiences forward to a new generation of Metro students and families.
Enrique (featured near the end of the segment) is an eighth-grade student at St. Mary of the Sea. He plans to attend high school at St. Rita. Enrique started at Midtown in 4th grade. He enjoys the blend of academics and athletics at the center. His favorite part, though, is making new friends and hanging out with the many friends he has made at Midtown over the years.
