Since 1965, MEF has helped thousands of inner-city kids become better students and better people through it's academic and character education programs. In early 2004, MEF decided to implement an alumni survey to update the statistics by which MEF measures the success of its programs.
The survey results provide strong confirmation of the trends seen in prior MEF surveys: Students who participate in programs at Midtown or Metro graduate from high school, and enter college, at much higher rates than their peer group. About 98% of MEF survey respondents had graduated from high school, compared to about 44% for their peer group within the Chicago Public School system. Also, 89% of the respondents had chosen to continue their education in colleges, universities, or trade schools, compared to about 20% for their peer group nationally.
