MEF Program Overview Print E-mail

A unique cultural and academic experience.

The Midtown Educational Foundation (MEF) operates the Midtown Center for boys and the Metro Achievement Center for girls.  These centers help youngsters in 4th-12th grades to become better students and better people through after-school and summertime programs.  Integrating academics, character building, parents, and fun activities, MEF’s award-winning programs give Chicago youth the “complete package” for success.  Our generous sponsors make our high-quality programs affordable, especially for low-income families.

We are now accepting students and volunteer tutors / mentors for our Fall 2008-2009 Program.  Hurry, spots fill up quickly.  We can't wait to meet you!

Individual attention is at the heart of what we do. Our volunteers are working professionals and college men and women. These role models help each student set goals, both in academics (such as math, english, and high school or college test prep) and personal growth, by developing good habits and virtues, such as honesty, generosity, leadership, and responsibility.  Come be a big sister or big brother for our boys and girls!

Our programs also aim to help parents and their children prepare for high school and college.  Midtown and Metro not only helps boost grades and build good character, but also exposes families to the application process, scholarships, different careers, and community service opportunities.

Our visitors say that there is ‘something about our place’ that can only be understood when one experiences a mini-tour of one of our centers. We have also found that ‘our biggest fans and veterans’ happen to be those who have first been exposed to Midtown and Metro by seeing it for themselves. We invite you to see why we were selected the ‘Most Exemplary Youth Mentoring Program in the City of Chicago’ by the Chicago Bar Foundation in 2006.

Join us.  You are welcome here at Midtown & Metro!
